Digital Artefact Pitch

For this semester’s digital artefact project, I decided to carry on a project I operated last semester: a culinary instruction video channel on Instagram, @cartedujour_, specialising in Vietnamese traditional cuisines. The initial prototype of my channel aimed to provide short cooking video tutorials lasting for 2 to 3 minutes. These videos were combined with background music and detailed directions of each cuisine technique’s process. Furthermore, each video was supplemented with a caption that delved into both the dish’s origins and its culinary tradition. The objective of the channel was to demonstrate to viewers the essence of traditional Vietnamese cuisine while simplifying the process of recipe discovery and culinary learning.

Adjacent Possible    

The strategic project development idea that I decide to implement in assistance with the operation of this project is  adjacent possible. The “adjacent possible” is described as “the set of potential available to people, groups, systems, organisms, productive procedures at any stage in their development.” The notion of the “adjacent possible” can be beneficial for comprehending the emergence of fresh opportunities and their constrained, as well as the processes of identified, investigated, actualized, established, reconfigured and built. It revolves around the dynamic interplay between between what is actual and what can be accomplished for various entities in particular circumstances (Björneborn 2023). Employing the adjacent possible notion in my channel has allowed me determine and investigate new possibilities for development and innovation. I can gradually experiment with alternative content formats, publishing schedules, and interaction tactics by analysing what performs appropriate while acquiring my audience’s preferences. My goal is to identify unique methods to engage my audience and achieve the vast potential that exists inside the adjacent possible via continual iteration and modification.

Analogus Artefacts

            After deciding to do this project, I extensively explored cooking-related content across social media platforms. I dived into a wide range of renowned cooking channels, where @jessicainthekitchen, @ixta.belfrage, and @culinary.frank emerged as significant influences, leaving a special effect on my creative perspective. Especially, the account @culinary.frank provides content comparable to mine, with the goal of focusing on traditional Vietnamese food. Their blogs and videos are carefully composed to demonstrate the whole culinary process, from conception to completion. The entire approach of these creators, which combines technical competence with compelling narrative, has encouraged me to include similar features into my own culinary channel.

Target Audiences

The target audiences for my channel are divided into three primary categories: culinary enthusiasts – those who are passionate about cuisine and are interested in trying new dishes and flavors. Home cooks are the next group; these are individuals who enjoy cooking at home and do so frequently. Finding short and precise material is usually a top priority for them. Finally, there is cultural explorer – a group of people that are interested in discovering other cultures through their food. They are constantly interested in learning more about the origins, stories, and traditions of the meal.

           

Challenges

            However, I will confront certain challenges when undertaking this project. To begin with, there are other diverse cooking-related channels on various social media platforms that have been extremely successful, so I have to evaluate carefully and create a unique angle for my channel. Furthermore, while developing a social media channel, it is critical that the channel is consistent and updated regularly. However, my channel has been on pause for a long owing to my busy schedule, so I need to reestablish consistency and efficiently manage my channel time. Finally, currently, food and culinary trends also fluctuate over time, therefore I must regularly update the trends that people embrace to maintain the channel’s material fresh and current.

Future Plan

            In order to tackle these potential challenges, I formed a thorough mind map of the channel’s future operating plan.
